Ethiopia - Job Vacancy

PTI has been contracted to supply training and advisory services to implement a National Strategy for the Psychological Support of Children in Ethiopia.

We require a Project Co-ordinator for a contract of 150 days in 2008 to be resident in Abbis Ababa. An experienced manager is required to assist in this implementation phase. Must have a positive outlook, be a self starter, able to work effectively with a minimum of direct supervision.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership in the implementation of the National Strategy

Marketing including communications, Publicity, and Promotion to develop the strategy

Financial – manage the project budget; and explore other sources of funding

Planning - produce detailed plans derived from the National Strategy and contract terms of reference

Monitor the progress of the contracted tasks

Project Management & Sector Development – manage the Ethiopian based tasks and regularly assess and report upon partners’ progress in implementing the strategy

Inter-organisation relations –maintain and develop relationships with UNICEF, the Centre for Child Psychosocial Support, Ministries, NGOs and other relevant organizations in Ethiopia and other African countries

Human Relations – provide leadership and personal development of partners’ staff

Office Administration & Systems required to fulfil the contract ‘s obligations

Training - recruit participants and arrange training venues and facilities to deliver the specified training

Clinical Governance - set up and manage the Clinical Governance data bases

Regulation - Promote the concepts and methods of professional regulation to the relevant government authorities

Advisory - provide guidance, direction and advice to the project’s partners

Skills & Experience Required

Leadership - Has demonstrated the qualities of leadership in a small organization with a record of motivating action.

Innovation - Can show the ability to generate and implement novel solutions to problems and open up new opportunities.

Project Management - Has experience of planning and controlling small to medium scale projects to successful outcomes.

Communication- Proven ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels ; able to prepare and give effective presentations on complex subjects to large audiences. Understands the ethos and working practices of NGOs.

Financial - Is able to produce management accounts and cash flow forecasts. A good record in budgetary control is essential.

Psychological Support of Children- Has an understanding of the principles and techniques of psychological support for children and young persons. Ideally has carried out therapeutic work with children.

Office Management & Secretarial - Experienced in modern office management practice. Good typing speed and accuracy.

IT - Has good skills in using MS XP or Vista, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access. Fully experienced in the use of email and searching for information using the Internet

Languages - Excellent spoken and written English is required. Amharic and other major European languages an advantage.
